Where is the line?
My heart is broken for our country right now, but I’ll be honest…it’s been tearing in two for a long time. The absolute willful ignorance of our slide into authoritarianism, the continued defense of terrible men who should never have been put in positions of power, and the strange justification of so many things from thousands who profess to be followers of Christ.
Where is the line? When is enough enough? Because the goalposts move every time I blink. I would have thought it was when our president talked about “grabbing women by the p***y” but that wasn’t it.
Tarrifs, maybe? Ah, no. Okay. That wasn’t it either.
I would have thought even when he made threats against Greenland (among others!!), but that wasn’t it either.
I would have thought the scrubbing of websites and the firing of women and people of color might have been something? Oh but I forgot, this is really only to benefit white men, sorry.
But now the unchecked military cosplay goons shot a white man ten times. Ten times. And y’all are trying to justify THAT? Not to mention Renee Good. And the countless others who are not even close to being criminals who have been torn from their families and homes.
So prolife, yeah.
Not exactly.
Sigh.
You know, I am so ashamed to say I voted for Donald Trump the first time around. I knew so little about him, and honestly very little of what politics really should be. And the more I learned, the more appalled I became. Especially as a woman, no thank you. Nobody is perfect, but even that doesn’t work here.
So I ask again, where is the line? Because even the Holocaust started somewhere, with some humans believing they were better than others, and slowly but surely dehumanizing those others until it’s all too easy to look the other way when your neighbors are dragged from their homes for disobeying. I really don’t say this lightly, truly.
So that’s my question, where is the line? I don’t expect answers, and honestly I wish I could just disable comments on this completely, but please, think on this. And examine your hearts, which I especially exhort to my fellow Christians.
E’en so Lord, quickly come.
