a favorite breakfast
An early morning walk before the heat of the day, a fresh loaf of bread from the dough that rose on the counter overnight, a cup of black coffee, and a favorite simple breakfast, a choice from Japan called tamago kake gohan, raw egg over rice.
Freshly steamed rice works best, as does a mostly farm fresh egg. My version scrambles the egg first before pouring over the steaming bowl, then sprinkling salt, pepper, and everything bagel seasoning on top. If I’m feeling fancy I’ll add chopped green onions. The egg cooks onto the grains of rice and becomes the silkiest bite of delicious.
I am now only wishing I had chosen green tea instead of coffee.
